Young, Silverio and Moss Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – Thaddeus Young, Alison Silverio and Shantia Moss were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, March 12, 2007.

Young, a freshman from Memphis, Tenn., scored a career-high 30 points in Tech’s 114-112 double-overtime loss to Wake Forest at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in Tampa, Fla. Young shot 10-19 from the floor including 3-6 from beyond the arc in a personal-best 42 minutes of play. The forward helped the Jackets earn their 15th appearance into the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament as a 10-seed in the Midwest Bracket.

Silverio, a senior from Louisville, Ohio, led the Jackets to a pair of 7-0 road wins in ACC play over the weekend. She dropped just three games in two doubles matches, teaming with freshman Amanda Craddock atop the Yellow Jackets doubles lineup, winning 8-1 against Michal Amir and Maggie MacKeever at Maryland and an 8-2 match vs. Dasha Cherkasov and Alina Sullivan at Boston College. Silverio also won a pair of singles matches in straight sets, defeating Amir, 6-4, 6-2, and breezing by Cherkasov, 6-1, 6-2.

Moss, a junior from Tamarac, Fla., won the NCAA Championship title in the 60-meter hurdles with a personal- and school-best time of 7.98. Moss garnered all-America honors and 10 points for her performance at the championship meet. The ACC champion led the No. 17 women’s track and field team to a 14th-place finish at the meet.
