Yellow Jackets Making The Grade In The Classroom

Dec. 19, 2008

ATLANTA — Evidently, Paul Johnson is making an impact in the classroom as well as on the football field.

Over the last two semesters, the mean grade-point average of the Georgia Tech football team has risen significantly. Not coincidentally, the Yellow Jackets’ improved academic numbers began about the same time Johnson was named Tech’s head football coach a year ago.

Figures for the recent fall semester show that the mean GPA of the Tech football team was 2.68, up from 2.52 one year ago. Forty percent of the football team earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Forty-two different Yellow Jackets earned Dean’s List and/or Faculty Honor.

“I think this speaks well of our players and coaching staff,” Johnson said. “We have stressed academics from the beginning and we think we can see those numbers go higher in the future.”
