Wong Leads Georgia Tech Women's Tennis on Final Day of Lady Gamecock Classic

ATLANTA – Junior Jaime Wong captured her first flight championship of the new year to lead the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team on the final day of competition at the Lady Gamecock Classic in Columbia, S.C. The three-day tournament was held at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center at the University of South Carolina.

Wong won a hard-fought match in the “A” draw finals as she downed the Gamecocks’ Radman by a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-6 (0) score, winning the third-set tiebreak 6-0. Joining Wong in the winner’s circle for the Yellow Jackets were freshman Catherine Gunn and sophomore Kristen Roberson. Gunn won the third-place match of draw “B,” as she downed Cherry of UNC Greensboro by an impressive 6-2, 6-0 count. Roberson finished third in draw “C,” as she had to take on teammate Mason Miller in the third-place match, winning in a decisive 6-1, 6-1 straight-set match.

Tech’s Laura Ozolins had reached the finals of draw “B,” but was unable to defeat Tan of South Carolina, dropping a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision.

In doubles play, the team of Wong and Miller, won their final match of the “A” doubles draw with a strong 8-2 win over Orellana and Peel of Greensboro. In the “B” doubles final, Tech’s team of Ozolins and Gunn fell to Kenoyer and Tan of South Carolina by a 4-8 score.
