Women’s Tennis Rises to No. 2 in ITA National Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – Following a pair of victories over the weekend, including defeating a top-five opponent, the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team jumped to No. 2 in the latest Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis National Rankings. This marks the 11th week the Jackets have been ranked in the top 10 since January and fourth week in the top five.

The No. 2 national ranking is the highest ranking since Tech was ranked No. 2 on April 13, 2008. Tech spent seven weeks at the No. 2 spot during the 2007-08 season and four weeks ranked No. 1 after winning the National Championship in 2007.

Winners of seven of the last eight matches, the Jackets have notched 10 wins this season over ranked opponents, including No. 1 North Carolina and then-No. 3 Duke and Florida. Tech boasts a 16-4 overall mark to go along with an 8-2 ACC ledger.

Tech is one of three ACC teams to appear in the top 10 in the nation with North Carolina holding down the No. 1 spot and Duke coming in at No. 4. Rankings are generated by a computerized system.

Last season, the Jackets spent 10 weeks ranked in the top 10 and finished the year at No. 9 after posting a 27-5 overall record and 13-1 ACC mark.

The Jackets begin a three-match road swing, heading to Pittsburgh first on Friday, April 13. First serve is slated for 4 p.m.
