Wilkinson and Kurian Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Sept. 19, 2005

ATLANTA – Gerris Wilkinson and Nisha Kurian were named Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, September 19, 2005.

Wilkinson, a senior from Oakland, Calif., led Georgia Tech’s outstanding defensive effort as the 16th-ranked Yellow Jackets defeated Connecticut 28-13 despite playing without starting quarterback Reggie Ball. Wilkinson, Tech’s leading tackler, had seven hits in the game, including three tackles for loss and one sack, and one of his quarterback pressures led directly to a Tech interception. Wilkinson and the Tech defense held the Huskies to just 196 total yards, including only 38 yards of offense and no first downs in the second half.

Kurian, a sophomore from Canton, Ohio, recorded a time of 18:47.72 to finish in 19th place overall at the Florida State Invitational Saturday. Her 19th-place finish helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a third place finish in the 17 team event. The women scored a total of 120 points to finish behind Florida State and Texas A&M.
