THE FLATS – Georgia Tech junior swimmer Iris Wang will represent the Yellow Jackets individually at the 2018 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships from March 14-17 in Columbus, Ohio at the McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion on the campus of The Ohio State University.
Wang was invited to the NCAAs to compete in the 100 free where she has the 23rd-best time in the nation this season at 48.23. She posted that career-best time at the 2017 Georgia Tech Invitational in November 2017.
With her invitation to the NCAAs and her NCAA B qualifying times in both the 50 free (22.69) and 200 free (1:45.53) this season, she will also get a chance to swim in those two sprint free events at the championships as well.
Wang is the first Yellow Jacket female to compete at the NCAAs since diver Shannon Lumbra (1-meter and 3-meter) in 2015 and the first swimmer since both Agatha Kwasnik (50, 100 and 200 free) and Elizabeth Stowe (500 and 1650 free) in 2008. She is also only the fifth female swimmer to be invited to the NCAAs in the program’s 18-year history.
The 2018 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships will be held on March 14-17 in Columbus, Ohio.
