>> Two teams with a combined 62 NCAA Tournament appearances meet this weekend in Atlanta as No. 20 Georgia Tech welcomes St. John’s for a three-game series at Russ Chandler Stadium.
>> The series is underway Friday at 4 p.m. with the first two games broadcast live on ESPN3. All three games can be heard on WREK with Nolan Alexander and Wade Rogers on the call.
>> Senior Buck Farmertoes the rubber on Friday versus the Red Storm, after earning ACC Pitcher of the Week honors and sweeping the national weekly awards. Farmer opened his season in style by striking out a career-high 14 batters in eight shutout innings during last Friday’s 3-0 win over Akron on Opening Day.
>> St. John’s reached a Super Regional last season and has been to three-straight NCAA Tournaments and 34 all-time. SJU is off to an 0-4 start after four games last weekend in Sarasota, Fla. Tech leads the all-time series 3-2 and took two of three in the Red Storm’s last visit to Atlanta in 2011.
>> Freshman Matt Gonzalez has eight hits in his first 13 college at bats and is second in the ACC in average at .615. The rookie second baseman has driven in a team-high eight runs, while sophomore A.J. Murray’saverage of .538 is fifth in the league.
>> Tech is leading the ACC with a .360 batting average and five Jackets currently rank among the top 16 in hitting in the league.
>> In his 20th season on the Flats, Coach Hall is 15th among active Division I coaches in wins (1,029).
