Track & Field's Alphonso Jordan Named MVP of ACC Outdoor Championships

April 23, 2010

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s Alphonso Jordan was named the men’s field most valuable performer for the 2010 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, as announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. With the win, Jordan duplicates the same honor he earned at the ACC Indoor Championships back in February.

Jordan, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., won his second consecutive outdoor triple jump title by leaping a career-best 54 feet, 6.50 inches (wind-aided) to earn All-ACC status at his fourth outdoor championship meet and help Georgia Tech to a seventh-place finish.

He also came in fifth in the long jump with a hop of 23-6.00. Jordan is the third straight Yellow Jacket to win the award after James Lemons and current Georgia Tech senior Steve Marcelle were selected field MVP in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

Jordan and the rest of the Yellow Jackets are in action this weekend at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. Jordan will compete in the triple jump on Saturday at the meet.
