Top Men’s Tennis Pros to Play Today in the Georgia Tech Holiday Tennis Challenge

Atlanta residents Brian Vahaly and Robby Ginepri each play in the semifinals of the Georgia Tech Holiday Tennis Challenge held at the Bill Moore Tennis Center on the campus of Georgia Tech.

Ginepri, who is a volunteer assistant coach for the Georgia Tech men’s tennis team and is the top seed in the tournament, faces Francisco Rodriguez, the No. 3 seed at 2 p.m. while Vahaly, the tournament’s No. 2 seed faces Bobby Reynolds, the No. 4 seed at 3:30 p.m.

In other matches today, Alex Herrera and Rodrigo Laub will take on No. 3 seed Ellis Ferreira and Eric Burke in a quarterfinals doubles match scheduled for 12 p.m. while Georgia Tech men’s head coach Kenny Thorne is paired with TJ Middleton and will face Mauricio Roveri and Igor Santana in the quarterfinals at 12 p.m. with the winners facing one another at approximately 3:30 p.m. in a semifinal match. The other semifinal match features top seeded Ginepri and Reynolds against D’Amico and Friedman at 3:30 p.m.

“This tournament is a special one because it has some big-time tournament players with a family atmosphere,” said Thorne. “It’s a neat chance for some of the top professionals to get some good matches in before the Australian open next month. And, since Atlanta no longer has a stop on the professional circuit, it’s a great opportunity for Atlantans like Robby and Brian, who train out of Georgia Tech, to play in front of their friends and family. I feel very fortunate that we have the facilities here at Tech to host an event like this and we look forward to it every year.”

Admission is free to all matches. For more information, please call 404-894-0369.
