The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team continued to make a strong showing in the Tennessee Fall Classic in Knoxville, Tenn., Saturday with three Yellow Jackets advancing to the finals of their respective singles flights.
Sophomore Jaime Wong defeated Purdue’s Lynsey Fick, 6-1, 6-1, and will meet Tennesee’s Kim Gates Sunday at 8:00 a.m. in the championship match of Flight 3 Singles. Gates defeated Georgia Tech sophomore Mason Miller, 6-2, 6-5, to advance to the finals.
Freshman Kristen Roberson, who won her flight in her first collegiate tournament Sept. 24 in Atlanta, continued to roll in college tennis. Roberson remained undefeated in cololegiate singles play, defeating Yumi Ueda of Mississippi State, 7-6, 6-1, to advance to the finals of Flight 4. Roberson will square off against Tennessee’s Crystal Cleveland Sunday at 8:00 a.m. Yellow Jacket junior Laura Ozolins advanced to the finals of Flight 5 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Furman’s Krista Thomson on Saturday. She will meet Brooke Cordell of Tennessee at 8:00 a.m. Sunday. In Flight 1, Tech sophomore Misti Morris fell to Megan Dunigan of Furman, 6-1, 6-1, in a consolation match.
Senior Bobbi Guthrie advanced to the consolation finals in Flight 2 Singles with a 6-0, 6-1, victory over Jennifer Jassawalta of NC State.
The Yellow Jackets conclude their second tournament of the fall tomorrow.
