Third-Ranked Tech Golf Leads After First Round Of Las Vegas Intercollegiate

ATLANTA (March 9) – The third-ranked Georgia Tech men’s golf team used a pair of players in the top 10 to take the lead after 18 holes of play at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate March 9. The three-day, 54-hole event is being contested at the 7,100-yard, par-72 Rio Secco Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Yellow Jackets used a team round of 4-over-par 292, and lead second-ranked Clemson by one shot entering the second round of play.

Tech’s top individual in the field is senior Wes Latimer, who carded a 1-under-par score of 71 on the first day and is tied with Anders Hultman of Oklahoma State in sixth place. That pair of players trail individual leader Jeff Quinney of Arizona State by two shots after Quinney finished Friday’s round with a 3-under-par 69.

The Jackets’ other player in the top 10 is sophomore Troy Matteson, who is tied with Andy Sanders of Houston in a tie for eighth place following a first-round score of even-par 72.

The tourney will continue on Saturday with the second round of play and conclude on Sunday with the final round of competition.
