ATLANTA — The Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will look for its third win of the year against a ranked opponent when it travels to Athens, Ga., to face sixth-ranked Georgia on Saturday at noon at the McWhorter Courts.
The Yellow Jackets (4-2) are currently ranked 26th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll and are coming, off of a 5-2 win over Middle Tennessee State on Feb. 16, while the Bulldogs are 4-1 on the year. Tech and Georgia will be meeting for the 14th time in history, with UGA having won the previous 13 match-ups.
Tech’s doubles play has been outstanding this year, as the Jackets have dropped the doubles point in only one match this season, that being against 10th-ranked Vanderbilt. The duo of Jaime Wong and Kelly Anderson are 4-2 this year while playing at the No. 1 spot in the lineup. The Jackets’ duo of Catherine Gunn and Maria Neito are still unbeaten in dual matches with a 6-0 record, playing No. 2 in the lineup and are currently the nation’s 51st-ranked doubles team.
Anderson and fellow rookie Lyndsay Shosho have led Tech in singles play, as the duo has combined for a 10-2 singles record in dual matches this season. Anderson has moved up into the No. 3 spot in the lineup after joining the team at the start of the spring, while Shosho has played primarily in the No. 5 position, posting a 4-1 record there.
Senior Jaime Wong continues to man the top of the Jacket lineup, as she is 14-6 overall in singles play on the year, with a 2-3 record in dual matches.
