ATLANTA — The Georgia Tech women’s cross country team will be entering unchartered territory on November 20, when it competes in the 2000 NCAA Championship in Ames Iowa.
The Yellow Jackets placed three runners in the Top 25 en route to a tie for second place at the NCAA South Regional on November 11 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Tech won a tie-breaker with in-state rival Georgia to claim the South Region’s second bid to the NCAA meet. With the bid, the Jackets’ women’s team becomes the first cross country team, men or women, to qualify for nationals.
Tech will be led in the national meet by freshman Renee Metivier and sophomore Amy Dock. Both earned all-south regional honors after finishing in the Top 10, as Metivier placed sixth and Dock 10th this past weekend.
Dock has been the Jackets’ top finisher in all but one event in which she has competed, and has four Top 10 finishes this fall, including a victory at the Georgia Intercollegiate Championships on October 7. Metivier has four Top 20 finishes in 2000, including three Top 10s this fall.
Prior to this season the Jackets’ top finish in the South Regional was fourth just last year.
