Tech Softball Trails Gators; Tournament to Resume Sunday Morning

Feb. 22, 2003

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The game between the 24th-ranked Georgia Tech softball team and Florida, which the Gators lead 4-0 in the second inning, was halted due to heavy rains Saturday at the Cox Communications Classic at the Florida Softball Stadium. Play will resume Sunday at 9 a.m.

A two-run homer to left by Florida left fielder Lindsey Cameron put the Gators up by the four-run margin in the bottom of the second. That shot chased Tech starter Erin Voeltz from the game and came just before the rain began. Center fielder Jenilee Garner and shortstop Jackie Marchetta also had run-scoring singles in the inning.

Following the conclusion of the Florida contest, Tech will play Oakland University in the tourney’s consolation game. The Golden Grizzlies defeated the Jackets, 1-0, Friday.
