Tech Golfers 10 Shots Back at Waikoloa

Waikoloa, Hawaii – Georgia Tech shot 14-under-par 274 Wednesday, but is tied for eighth place, 10 strokes behind Oklahoma State, after the first round of play at the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate golf tournament.

The third-ranked Cowboys, who posted a 24-under-par 264 on the par-72, 6,791-yard Waikoloa Village Golf Club course, have a one-shot lead over Southern California, who posted a 265.

They are followed by Augusta State (270), Kansas (272), Colorado (272), Washington (272), TCU (273), Tech (274), Arkansas (274), Pepperdine (276), Arizona State (277), UCLA (277), Stanford (279), Hawaii Hilo (280), Oregon (280), UC Davis (282), Oklahoma (283), Fresno State (283), Texas (287), Hawaii Manoa (290) and Rhode Island (293).

Tech’s Roberto Castro and Nicholas Thompson each shot 68 on Wednesday, four shots off the lead, while Kevin Larsen and Chan Song each carded 69s for the Yellow Jackets. Mike Barbosa shot 75 and did not count for Tech.

OSU’s Tyler Leon, Augusta State’s Emmett Turner and Kansas’ Tyler Docking are in a tie for first-place individually at eight-under-par 64.
