Tech Golfer Bryce Molder Joins Matt Kuchar On 1999 Walker Cup Team

ATLANTA (August 23) — Georgia Tech junior Bryce Molder (Conway, Ark.), who advanced to the third round of match play in the 1999 U.S. Amateur Golf Championship, was named a Walker Cup team member by the United States Golf Association on Sunday.

Molder, a two-time first team all-America and the ACC Player of the Year, qualified for the U.S. Open, finished third in the Northeast Amateur and won two U.S. Amateur Championship matches this year to fortify his selection to the team. The Walker Cup Match will be played Sept. 11-12 at Nairn Golf Club in Nairn, Scotland and will consist of 16 singles and eight foursomes (alternate shot) matches. It pits the top 10 U.S. Amateur players against their counterparts from Great Britain and Ireland.

Molder joins senior Matt Kuchar (Lake Mary, Fla.) on the team, as Kuchar was one of the first five selections named to the squad during July. The duo now joins Bobby Jones, Watts Gunn, Charlie Yates and David Duval as the only Yellow Jackets to be selected to America’s most prestigious amateur golf team.
