EL PASO, Texas – Georgia Tech athletic director Dan Radakovich presented nearly 6,500 Hyundai Sun Bowl tickets to U.S. troops Wednesday night at a reception at Fort Bliss.
Georgia Tech plays Utah Saturday at Sun Bowl Stadium. The game kicks off just after 2 p.m. Eastern (Noon Mountain) and will be televised by CBS.
Many of the tickets were purchased and donated by Yellow Jacket fans. The remainder of the tickets were donated by the Georgia Tech Athletic Association.
“I think it says a great deal about our fans,” Associate Athletic Director Wayne Hogan said. “Once we made them aware of the Seats for Soldiers program, they came through in flying colors.”
The bowl trip has had a military flavor for Georgia Tech, which arrived in El Paso on Monday. On Wednesday, 115 Yellow Jacket players spent six hours with the troops at Fort Bliss.
“The trip to Fort Bliss was special for our players,” Hogan said. “They received a brief glimpse at the life of a soldier. It was a very rewarding experience for everyone involved.”
