THE FLATS – Georgia Tech wide receiver Brad Stewart (Savannah, Ga./Benedictine Military School) is a semifinalist for the 2018 William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation (NFF) announced on Wednesday. The Campbell Trophy recognizes college football’s top scholar-athlete.
Stewart is one of Georgia Tech’s leaders on the field, in the classroom and in the community. On the field, the senior has played in all 40 games since he arrived on Georgia Tech’s campus in 2015 (one of only two active Yellow Jackets who has played in 40 games) and made 31-consecutive starts at wide receiver, good for the longest starting streak on the team (no other current Jacket has started more than 23-straight games). He has caught 38 passes for 662 yards (17.4-yard avg.) and two touchdowns in his career.
In the classroom, Stewart carries a 3.3 grade-point average as a mechanical engineering major. He was a first-team Academic All-District honoree in 2016 and is a two-time member of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s football all-academic team and the ACC academic honor roll.
In the community, he participated in Georgia Tech’s Jackets Without Borders trip in May to help rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Maria, organized teammates to assist with a Habitat for Humanity house build in July and has volunteered his time to read to children at local schools.

Stewart is one of 179 semifinalists for the 2018 Campbell Trophy, spanning all levels of college football. Candidates must be a senior or graduate student in their final season of athletic eligibility, have a GPA of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have outstanding football ability as a first-team player or significant contributor and demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.
The list of 179 semifinalists will be pared to 12-14 finalists on Oct. 31, with each of the finalists receiving an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. The winner of the 2018 Campbell Trophy will be announced on Dec. 4 at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner in New York City. The winner will receive an additional $7,000 grant for a total postgraduate scholarship of $25,000.
