Stanislaus and Wieters named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Mellany Stanislaus and Matt Wieters were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, May 8, 2006.

Stanislaus, a freshman from Fayetteville, Ga., led the Georgia Tech women’s track and field team at the Orange and Purple Classic last weekend. Stanislaus posted a NCAA Region qualifying mark of 40 feet, 6 inches, to finish first in the triple jump. She currently ranks second on the Tech squad and eighth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in the triple jump.

Wieters, a sophomore from Goose Creek, SC, hit .455 to lead Georgia Tech to a three-game sweep of South Florida last weekend. Wieters also pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in the series final to earn the save in Tech’s 4-3 win. For the weekend, the switch-hitting catcher was 5-for-11 with a home run, double, four runs and two RBI. He also drew three walks to post a .571 on base percentage while recording a .818 slugging percentage.
