April 24, 2010

ATLANTA – Saturday’s baseball game between No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 20 Virginia Tech has been suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning due to heavy rain in the Atlanta area.

After sitting in a 45-minute rain at Russ Chandler Stadium, officials decided to suspend the game until Sunday at 12 p.m. The two teams will play with Georgia Tech batting in the bottom of the fourth. The series finale will begin immediately following the conclusion of game two.

The Hokies jumped out to a 4-0 lead on the Jackets in the top of the second inning. Ronnie Shaban sent a two-run homer to left field, before Virginia Tech added another on a RBI groundout to second by Tim Smalling. The Hokies closed the inning with one more run on a wild pitch by Georgia Tech starter Brandon Cumpton. Three of the four runs in the inning went unearned, as the Jackets committed two costly errors.

Virginia Tech added two more in fourth, one on a RBI groundout and another on a single to right field by Tony Balisteri for a 6-0 lead.

Both games on Sunday can be heard on WREK Radio (91.1 FM in Atlanta/www.wrek.org).
