ATLANTA – Georgia Tech head football coach Paul Johnson is one of 15 semifinalists for the 21st George Munger Award for College Coach of the Year announced today by Maxwell Football Club President, Ron Jaworski.
Three finalists will be announced on Nov. 23 and a second round of voting will take place at that time. The Maxwell Football Club will announce the winner of the 21st George Munger Award via a press release in December. The formal presentation of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club’s Awards Dinner, to be held on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Harrah’s Entertainment Complex in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Voting presented by the Maxwell Football Club will begin today and close on Sunday, Nov. 22 Eligible voters include Maxwell Football Club members, NCAA Head Football Coaches, Sports Information Directors and selected national media.
In his second season, Johnson has the Yellow Jackets ranked in the top 10 for the first time since 2001. Johnson has compiled a 17-5 record in two seasons at the helm. He was named the 2008 ACC Coach of the Year and CBS Sportsline.com National Coach of the Year one season ago. His career .738 winning percentage (124-44) is the 10th-best among active coaches with a minimum of five full years as a head coach.
