Offensive Line Taking Shape

March 28, 2002

The Georgia Tech football team returns three starters on the offensive line, but one of them is working at a new position this spring as junior Hugh Reilly makes the transition from right guard to center.

After holding their fourth practice of the spring Thursday at Rose Bowl Field, the Yellow Jackets break for the Easter holiday and will return to work next Tuesday.

Reilly, a 6-4, 285-pounder from Alpharetta, Ga., who started every game at guard last fall, should be an all-conference candidate as he replaces two-year starter David Schmidgall at center.

The left side of the offensive line features a pair of massive sophomores in tackle Nat Dorsey, a 6-6, 315-pounder from New Orleans, La., and guard Leon Robinson, a 6-4, 310-pounder from Garden City, Ga. Dorsey moved into the starting five in the fourth game of 2001 as a true freshman and went on to earn first-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference honors as well as freshman all-America accolades.

Another sophomore, 6-5, 280-pound Kyle Wallace (Suwanee, Ga.), is working at right tackle, while 6-2, 278-pound senior Raymond Roberts-Blake (Walthourville, Ga.), a former starter at left guard, is now on the right side.

Other linemen looking to earn playing time include sophomore Andy Tidwell-Neal (Plymouth, Minn.) at center, redshirt freshmen Gavin Tarquinio (Marietta, Ga.) and Brad Honeycutt (Mesquite, Texas) and junior Clay Hartley (Bryceville, Fla.) at guard, and junior John Bennett (Woodstock, Ga.), senior Garren Findlay (North Logan, Utah) and redshirt freshman Salih Besirevic (Denver, Colo.) at tackle. Bennett is a former starter who has been hampered by injury, while Besirevic moved to tackle this spring after playing tight end last fall.
