COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The 20th-ranked Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team (12-7, 3-3 ACC) extended its win streak to three games with a 7-0 victory over Maryland (3-9, 0-7) Saturday afternoon at the Tennis Center.
“Our team played well today and I was happy with the way we executed on the important points,” head coach Bryan Shelton said. “It was good to see Sasha [Krupina] play so well and execute her game plan.”
The Yellow Jackets opened the day by winning its third straight doubles points for an early 1-0 lead over the Terrapins. No. 30 Irina Falconi and Sasha Krupina got things started with an 8-1 win over Jordan Hansbrough and Lexi Brand on court one. The Jackets duo of Viet Ha Ngo and Elizabeth Kilborn clinched the point with an 8-1 victory of their own over Burce Kurkan and Eleonore Paillaud. Hillary Davis and Lynn Blau also teamed together for a doubles win.
Davis, who has won five of her last six matches, put the Jackets up 2-0 when she defeated Paillaud, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.
The nation’s No. 1 player, Irina Falconi, extended the Tech lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Maggie MacKeever at the top spot in the lineup. Falconi is now 18-1 in singles during the dual-match season.
Though she has been struggling recently, Krupina, who played at No. 3 singles, clinched the match for Georgia Tech with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hansbrough.
Tech also got wins from Blau, Kilborn and Ngo to finish the sweep of the Terrapins.
The Yellow Jackets will return home next weekend for the final homestand of the weekend. Tech will host No. 5 Duke Saturday and No. 1 North Carolina Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at noon. The Jackets will honor their lone senior Amanda McDowell Sunday prior to the match.
