No. 10 Georgia Tech Baseball Tops East Tennessee State, 9-4

ATLANTA – Jason Perry and Matt Murton each drove in two runs to back a solid pitching performance from freshman Matt Lorenzo as 10th-ranked Georgia Tech (37-14) defeated visiting East Tennessee State (21-28) on Monday night in the final regular season game at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Lorenzo improved to 4-0 after holding the Buccaneers to three runs on five hits in six innings of work. He walked three batters and struck out a career-high eight.

ETSU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run homer from Andy Baxter, his 12th of the year. The Bucs made the score 3-0 with a RBI double by Ryan Hyder in the second.

Tech trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third on a RBI single from Matthew Boggs and a sacrifice fly from Richard Lewis. The Yellow Jackets took a 4-3 lead with two more runs in the fourth on a two-run single from Perry.

A five-run fifth inning by the Yellow Jackets made the score 9-3 and put the game out of reach. The inning was highlighted by a two-run single from Murton, while Brad Stockton and Victor Menocal each added RBI singles in the frame.

Tech had 16 hits in the game, all singles, led by two-hit performances >from Perry, Murton, Boggs, Stockton, Menocal, Derik Goffena and Jason Basil.

ETSU starter Matt Hensley (2-6) took the loss after surrendering four runs in four innings of work.

Georgia Tech will visit Mercer on Tuesday at 7 p.m., while ETSU will host UNC Greensboro on Friday at 7 p.m.
