Nico van Duijn Enjoys Successful Swiss Championship

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech freshman men’s swimmer Nico van Duijn wrapped a successful weekend at the Swiss Short Course Championships, setting a championship record and clinching a spot in the European Short Course Championships in the 100 fly.

Van Duijn’s championship record of 53.40 came in the preliminary round, which helped secure his spot in the European Championships. In the finals, he finished third with a time of 53.77. The European Short Course Championships is set for Dec. 8-11, 2011 in Szczecin, Poland.

Van Duijn, a native of Basserdorf, Switzerland, also swam the 50 and the 200 fly in the meet, taking the silver in the 50 fly in a time of 24.35 and finishing as the bronze-medalist in the 200 fly in 2:00.56.
