THE FLATS – Quarterback Joshua Nesbitt, who led Georgia Tech to a 23-11 record as a starter from 2008-10, is the Yellow Jackets’ representative in the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference Football Legends class, which was announced on Thursday.
Nesbitt arrived at Georgia Tech in 2007 but flourished as the signal-caller in Paul Johnson’s spread option offense when Johnson came to The Flats in 2008. He ran for 2,806 yards in his career, which remains Georgia Tech’s all-time record for quarterbacks and stood as the ACC record for QBs until it was surpassed by Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson (Louisville) in 2017. Nesbitt also passed for 3,276 yards (10th in GT history) and accounted for 55 touchdowns (35 rushing, 10 passing) as a Yellow Jacket. His 6,082 yards of total offense and 55 touchdowns responsible for both rank sixth in Georgia Tech history.
As a junior in 2009, Nesbitt was named first-team all-ACC after totaling 2,738 yards of offense (1,701 passing, 1,037 rushing) and accounting for 28 touchdowns (10 passing, 18 rushing) while leading the Yellow Jackets to an 11-3 record*, the ACC Coastal Division title, a win over Clemson in the ACC Championship Game* and a No. 13 final national ranking.
The 2018 ACC Legends will be honored during the ACC Night of Legends, presented by the Charlotte Sports Foundation, on Friday, Nov. 30, and prior to the 14th-annual Dr. Pepper ACC Football Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 1. Both events will be held in Charlotte, N.C.
* Georgia Tech later vacated the 2009 ACC Championship Game victory due to NCAA sanctions.
