Men's Tennis Begins Spring Season This Weekend

Jan. 15, 2004

The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team will open the spring portion of their schedule this week as they compete in the Atalntic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Indoor Championships on the campus of Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, NC. beginning Friday.

The Yellow Jackets will join seven other teams from the ACC in the event, which is hosted by Wake Forest at its Indoor Tennis Complex. Play is scheduled to begin on Friday with two rounds of singles play and two rounds of double competition.

“This will be a good test for us to see exactly where we are as individuals,” said head coach Kenny Thorne, who begins his sixth season at the helm of the Jackets. “It’s a great tournament and in addition to fine-tuning a few things, it will give us a good indication of what our lineup will be for the upcoming dual match portion of our schedule which begins in a few weeks.”

Among the Jackets that are participating this weekend are seniors Scott Schnugg and Joao Menano, who won the singles title in 2002.

Full recaps of the results from the weekend will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com or www.tennisinformation.com, ID#5146455.
