Landry & Eveland Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

Sept. 15, 2003

ATLANTA –

Football defensive standout Dawan Landry and volleyball setter Kele Eveland were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, September 15, 2003.

Landry, a redshirt sophomore from Ama, La., keyed a superb defensive effort in Georgia Tech’s 14-13 loss to 10th-ranked Florida State. The Tech defense held the Seminoles to just 251 offensive yards, including only 26 yards and one first down in the entire first half of the ballgame. He had an interception, fumble recovery, and pass breakup against Florida State, with the interception coming at the Tech seven-yard line, which ended the Seminoles’ scoring threat in the third quarter. He also converted a fourth down with a 12-yard reception from Hal Higgins on a fake punt, giving the Jackets a first down at the FSU 26-yard line.

Eveland, a senior from Grand Rapids, Mich., led the Georgia Tech volleyball team to a perfect 3-0 record on the weekend, earning her MVP honors while leading the team to the US Bank/Arby’s Invitational championship. The three wins on the weekend came over 17th-ranked Michigan State, 13th-ranked Santa Clara, and 5th-ranked Nebraska in the championship match, and marked the first time in school history that the team has won three consecutive matches against ranked opponents. The win against the Cornhuskers marked the highest ranked team that Tech volleyball has ever defeated. Eveland leads the nation in assists per game and runs an offense that leads the nation in hitting percentage and kills per game. She averaged 14.36 assists, 2.91 digs, and 1.18 kills per game in the tournament.
