King Qualifies For Track & Field World Championships

EUGENE, Ore. (June 29) — Andria King (Atlanta, Ga.), a June graduate of Georgia Tech, will represent the United States in the World Outdoor Championships August 21-29 in Seville, Spain. She finished third in the 100 meter hurdles at the USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships Sunday in a career-best time of 12.73 seconds. Additionally, she will also represent America in the World University Games July 3-12 in Palma Del Mallocra, Spain.

King finished behind only reigning Olympic champion Gail Devers, who won in a time of 12.54 seconds, and San Diego St.’s Miesha McKelvy, who placed second in 12.67 seconds. King qualifies for her first International Amateur Athletic Federation World Championship meet by virtue of finishing among the top three medalists in the finals. After qualifying with a time of 13.07 seconds in her preliminary heat, she nipped Devers, 12.90 to 12.93 seconds in the second semifinal to advance to the finals. Her performance marked the first time in three USA Track & Field Championships that she reached the finals.

King ended her career at Tech this year as the NCAA championship runner up in both the Indoor 60 meter hurdles and Outdoor 100 meter hurdles. She now plans to pursue a career in professional track.
