Jordan, Marcelle Set to Compete at 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships

March 11, 2010

ATLANTA – Seniors Alphonso Jordan and Steve Marcelle will compete at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday at the Randall Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

Jordan, a native of Charlotte, N.C., will compete in the triple jump on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. after automatically qualifying for the event at the ACC Indoor Championships on Feb. 27th with a mark of 53 feet, 4.25 inches (which was also a new school record). The mark was good enough for Jordan to capture the event and helped him earn the Field Most Valuable Performer award at the meet.

Jordan will look to improve on an impressive performance at last year’s NCAA Indoor Championships, in which he finished eighth overall to earn All-American honors. In 2008, Jordan finished 11th overall in the triple jump.

Marcelle, a Green Bay, Wisc. native, takes part in the shot put on Friday afternoon at 2:45 p.m. and is looking to improve on a 14th place finish at last year’s Championships.

Marcelle received an at-large bid for the event, after posting a mark of 61 feet, 11 inches at the ACC Indoor Championships, which was good enough to earn Marcelle a gold medal in the event for the third straight year.

Fans are reminded that ESPN360.com will stream portions of the championships live beginning at 8 p.m. Central time, Friday, March 12, and 6:10 p.m. Central time, Saturday, March 13.
