Johnson Named Maxwell Award Coach of the Year Semifinalist

Nov. 19, 2014

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson is one of 20 semifinalists for the 2014 Maxwell Football Club Coach of the Year Award. He is one of three from the ACC, joining Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher and Duke’s David Cutcliffe.

The Yellow Jackets (9-2, 6-2), who were picked to finish fifth in the ACC Coastal Division in the preseason by the ACC media, are guaranteed at least a share of the ACC Coastal title. Georgia Tech’s bowl streak will extend to 18 consecutive seasons – the second-longest active streak in FBS.

Georgia Tech is ranked No. 18 in the latest College Football Playoff Top 25 – the second-highest ranked ACC school behind only No. 3 Florida State.

Georgia Tech, who has won four straight games, leads the ACC in 13 different categories – 3rd down conversion percentage (58.3), 4th down conversion percentage (69.2), blocked kicks (5), turnover margin (0.91), total offense (469.6), time of possession (33:49), passing efficiency (161.96), scoring offense (37.8), rushing offense (327.9), passing yards per completion (18.34), fewest passes intercepted (4), first downs offense (264), and defensive TDs (6).

Finalists for the 2014 Maxwell Football Club Coach of the Year Award will be announced on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Georgia Tech, who has its second open date of the season this week, will close out its regular-season slate Nov. 29 against No. 10 Georgia in Athens. Kickoff is set for noon ET on the SEC Network. When the Jackets and Bulldogs take the field, it’ll be the 109th meeting of “Clean, Old Fashioned Hate” – the nation’s 19th-most frequently played series among FBS schools.
