Joe Hamilton accounted for 283 yards and two touchdowns and became the Atlantic Coast Conference’s all-time leader in total offense in Georgia Tech’s 45-38 loss at Virginia.

Hamilton completed 18 of 26 passes for 233 yards yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 49 yards.

Hamilton did his best to rally the Jackets, tossing an eight-yard touchdown pass to Kerry Watkins with 1:45 left that brought Tech within 45-38, but Tech failed to recover the onsides kick.

Hamilton raised his career total to 9,478 yards of total offense, eclipsing the ACC record of 9,296 set by former Tech quarterback Shawn Jones (1989-92).

1999 SEASON TO DATE

Hamilton LEADS THE NATION in passing efficiency at 179.5. In eight games, he has completed 136 of 203 passes (67 percent) for 2,116 yards and a school-record 19 touchdowns with six interceptions.

Hamilton is also Tech’s second-leading rusher with 516 yards–a Tech season record for rushing yards by a quarterback–a 4.7-yard average and six touchdowns. He ranks seventh in the ACC in rushing.

Hamilton averages 329.0 yards of total offense per game (third in the nation), while directing a Tech offense that leads the nation in total yards (507.9 per game) and scoring (41.1 ppg).

CAREER NOTES

Hamilton’s career pass efficiency rating is 146.22, the BEST mark in ACC history, just ahead former FSU quarterback Thad Busby (144.89). The ACC’s all-time leader in total offense (9,478), he is also tied for second in TDR (73), tied for third in TD passes (55) and seventh in passing yards (7,705). In his last 24 games, Hamilton has thrown 45 TD passes and just 14 interceptions.
