For the sixth time in the last 13 games, Georgia Tech’s Joe Hamilton led the Yellow Jackets on a game-saving drive in the fourth quarter as Tech downed Duke, 38-31 in Durham, N.C. After the Blue Devils took a 31-28 lead early in the fourth quarter, Hamilton moved Tech in position for the tying field goal with 7:12 left and then drove the Jackets 70 yards on four plays for the winning touchdown with 2:56 to play. He opened the winning drive with a 36-yard completion to Kelly Campbell.

Hamilton passed for 324 yards and two touchdowns on a career-high 23 completions (34 attempts). He also rushed for 63 yards and amassed 387 yards of total offense.

Hamilton was particularly effective in the first half, when he completed 15 of 18 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns.

1999 SEASON TO DATE
Hamilton LEADS THE NATION in passing efficiency at 185.8. In six games, he has completed 102 of 151 passes (68 percent) for 1,671 yards and 14 touchdowns with four interceptions.

Also Tech’s leading rusher with 384 yards (4.6 average) and six touchdowns, Hamilton averages 342.5 yards of total offense per game (second in the nation). He directs a Tech offense that leads the nation in total yards (516.5 per game) while ranking third in scoring (40.5 ppg).

CAREER NOTES
Hamilton’s career pass efficiency rating is 145.31, the BEST mark in ACC history, just ahead former FSU quarterback Thad Busby (144.89). He ranks fourth in ACC annals in career total offense (8,901), third in TDR (68), sixth in TD passes (50) and seventh in passing yards (7,493). In his last 22 games, Hamilton has thrown 40 TD passes and just 12 interceptions.

With his next touchdown pass, Hamilton will tie the Georgia Tech career record of 51, currently held by Shawn Jones.
