Jackets Well-Represented On All-ACC Team

Nov. 30, 2009

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech placed five offensive players and six players overall on the 2009 All-ACC first-team announced Monday after a vote conducted by members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

The six first team selections are Tech’s most since the 2001 season.

A telling sign of how prolific Georgia Tech’s offense was this season: nearly half of its starters made the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team.

Among the Coastal Division champions on the first team were quarterback Josh Nesbitt, running back and reigning ACC player of the year Jonathan Dwyer, receiver Demaryius Thomas, guard Cord Howard and center Sean Bedford.

They were among the cornerstones of a group that led the ACC in scoring (35.0 points per game), total offense (440.5 ypg), rushing offense (305 ypg) and pass efficiency (160.7 rating).

On the defensive side, conference sack-leader Derrick Morgan tied for the most votes among all players on both sides of the ball with a total of 76.

Junior safety Morgan Burnett landed a spot on the All-ACC second team, giving the Jackets a total of seven honorees.
