Top Storylines
• After back-to-back losses to top-15 opponents, Georgia Tech football looks to snap the two-game skid on Saturday at Pittsburgh.
• Last Saturday, Georgia Tech outplayed No. 14 Miami (Fla.) for much of the game but the Hurricanes returned two Yellow Jacket fumbles for touchdowns during a three-play span in the second quarter and Tech went on to suffer a 35-21 defeat.
• Despite playing its last four games at home, Georgia Tech has endured a grueling schedule over the first five weeks of the season. The Yellow Jackets are one of only five teams that have played two opponents that are ranked in the top 10 of this week’s Associated Press college football top 25 poll (joining Appalachian State, Auburn, Oklahoma and Rutgers).
• Also punctuating the strength of Georgia Tech’s early-season schedule is the fact that each of its first three ACC opponents currently rank among the top 12 nationally in total defense (Boston College – first, Miami – seventh, Clemson – 12th).
• Although they stand at 1-2 in conference play, the Yellow Jackets remain very much in contention for the ACC Coastal Division title. In fact, two seasons ago, Georgia Tech dropped consecutive league games to Duke and North Carolina but rebounded to win the division title with a 6-2 ACC record. Tech’s first game after the back-to-back losses was a 56-28 romp at Pitt (Oct. 25, 2014).
• Saturday’s contest at Pitt is Georgia Tech’s first true road game of the season. The only time that the Yellow Jackets have played away from Bobby Dodd Stadium was in their season-opening 17-14 win over Boston College in Dublin, Ireland.
