Jackets to Compete at the Tiger Track Classic

April 5, 2007

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s track and field team will be competing at the Tiger Track Classic this Saturday, April 7, on the Hutsell-Rosen track in Auburn, Ala.

Competition begins on Saturday with the long jump at 12 p.m., with running events scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The last men’s event of the day is set for 6:25 p.m.

“We are looking forward to this weekends meet at Auburn,” said men’s head coach Grover Hinsdale. “This will be our last opportunity to compete prior to the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships so we need to make the most of it. Auburn has a new track facility and several great teams scheduled to attend. I believe this will be a similar atmosphere to our home meet last weekend which was outstanding.”

The men are led by junior Jerome Miller, who broke his own school-record in the high jump last weekend with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 7 feet, 3 inches. Miller is currently ranked third in the nation and first in the east region.

Redshirt Freshman Steve Marcelle set the school-record in the shot put last weekend with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 60 feet, ½ inch. Marcelle is ranked seventh in the nation and third in the east region. Marcelle has also qualified in the discus with a personal-best mark of 173 feet, 1 inch.

Sophomore Andy Powlen also qualified for the NCAA Regional in the shot put with a mark of 56 feet, 6 ¾ inches.

Senior James Lemons II and freshman Alphonso Jordan each qualified for the NCAA Regional in the triple jump last weekend. Lemons finished with a mark of 51 feet, 8 ½ inches, while Jordan landed at 51 feet, 7 inches.

Results for the Tiger Track Classic will be posted at the end of the day on the official Georgia Tech website (www.ramblinwreck.com). Information and results will also be available by C.F.P.I. Timing.
