Jackets Host St. Joseph's In Softball Action

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech (19-5) moved up one spot in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Poll this week to No. 24 as the Yellow Jackets are No. 24 in both the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 and ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate polls. Tech hosts St. Joseph’s for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 11. The contest is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. on Glenn Field.

The Yellow Jackets finished second at the Hillenbrand Invitational (March 5-7), falling to eventual champion No. 2 Arizona, 2-0. Tech trounced UTEP, Northern Iowa and Indiana 7-0 over the weekend. The Rambling Wreck lead the Atlantic Coast Conference in pitching (0.79 ERA) and stand third in batting average (.277).

Sophomore right fielder Amy Hosier led Tech last week, hitting .412, with five runs batted in, three doubles and three walks. Hosier leads the conference with eight doubles and ranks fourth on the Tech squad with a .311 batting average.

Junior Jessica Sallinger continues to lead the Jackets in the circle, entering this week with an overall record of 11-3. Sallinger ranks second in the ACC in ERA (0.59) and strikeouts (10.71 per game).

Senior All-American shortstop Tara Knudsen took over the home run lead in the ACC, and at Georgia Tech, with her 40th career bomb last Friday, March 5, against UTEP. Knudsen leads the league with six home runs and 20 RBIs this season.

Next on tap for the Jackets will be Ball State on Wednesday, March 17, for a non-conference doubleheader at Glenn Field. The match-up is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. and can be followed on www.ramblinwreck.com.
