Jackets' Baseball Recruiting Class Ranked in Top 20 for Fifth Straight Year

ATLANTA (Oct. 8) – For the fifth consecutive year, Georgia Tech’s recruiting class in baseball has earned a top-20 ranking from Collegiate Baseball magazine. Tech’s incoming group, which includes three players selected in the June 1999 major league draft, is rated 14th nationally.

Catcher Tyler Parker and pitcher Philip Perry, both of Marietta, Ga., and outfielder Jon Henry Kail of Pittsburgh, Pa., highlight the group of seven scholarship freshmen and three walk-ons. Parker and Kail were sixth-round draft choices by the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox, respectively, while Perry was a 41st-round selection by the Mets.

The rest of Tech’s freshman class includes pitchers Jeff Watchko of Roswell, Ga., and Ronnie Robinson of Dunwoody, Ga.; infielder Jason Perry of Jonesboro, Ga., and outfielder Davis Myers of Alpharetta, Ga.

Head coach Danny Hall and recruiting coordinator/pitching coach Mike Trapasso have consistently brought in highly-rated classes to the Flats, including the nation’s top-ranked class last fall headlined by third baseman Mark Teixeira of Severna Park, Md. From 1995-97, Tech’s recruiting classes were ranked fourth, 18th and seventh.
