May 4, 2017

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech football head coach Paul Johnson and men’s basketball legend Jon Barry earned $27,500 for Georgia Tech’s scholarship endowment fund and the campus’ chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes with their performance at this week’s 11th-annual Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge golf tournament at the Ritz Carlton Resort at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga.

Johnson and Barry shot three-under-par at this year’s Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge, which featured 15 teams of college football coaches paired with celebrity alums. In addition to bringing home $22,500 for their showing in the two-man scramble, Barry added another $5,000 to the Yellow Jackets’ winnings with a first-place showing in the long-drive contest (288 yards).

Johnson and Barry have teamed up to participate in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge for 10-straight years and have earned a total of $765,000 for Georgia Tech’s scholarship endowment fund and their selected charities. They have won the event a record four times (2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015).

In all, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge has provided $6.8 million in donations to scholarship funds and charities over its 11-year history. The Ole Miss team of head coach Hugh Freeze and former Rebels’ football star Wesley Walls shot 11-under-par this week to win the event for the second-straight year.

This year’s Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge was recorded and will be broadcast on ESPN in August and December. Air times will be announced this summer.
