Georgia Tech football arrived in Ireland on Thursday in advance of Saturday’s season opener versus ACC foe Boston College at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium.

Shortly after landing at Dublin Airport at 9 a.m. local time on Thursday morning, the Yellow Jackets headed to Aviva Stadium for their 26th and final preseason practice. Immediately following the relatively light walkthrough at Lansdowne Rugby Club (adjacent to Aviva Stadium), the Jackets were treated to a demonstration of traditional Gaelic games, including Gaelic football and hurling. Student-athletes and coaches alike tried their hand at games, which place kicker Harrison Butker proving adept at Gaelic football and head coach Paul Johnson turning out to be one of the most natural hurling talents.

Following practice, Georgia Tech headed back to its team hotel along the Irish Sea for position meetings. After meetings, the team re-boarded its buses to make the short journey to the coastal village of Howth and a traditional Irish dinner and show at the Abbey Tavern. The Yellow Jackets’ entire travel party was treated not only to a meal that included entrees such as Guinness beef and lamb stew, but spectacular performances by a three-piece Irish band and three Irish step dancers. Like the afternoon’s Gaelic games demonstration, some of the Jackets were called on to join the performers with defensive lineman Patrick Gamble helping steal the show with his singing and dancing.
