Georgia Tech Men's Track & Field helped the Atlanta Community Food Bank

Oct. 11, 2006

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s track and field team volunteered their time to assist the Atlanta Community Food Bank on Wednesday evening. The athletes involved were asked to inspect, sort and pack assorted donations of non-perishable food, paper goods, medicines and cleaning products for distribution. This project was a great team-building experience and an opportunity to help those in need.

The Food Bank supports a wide range of people in need, from children to the working poor. More than 750 community-based, nonprofit partner organizations use the Food Bank’s resources to distribute hundreds of thousands of pounds of groceries each month. These partner agencies include food pantries, Head Start programs, childcare centers, nursing homes, Meals-on-Wheels, residential treatment centers, night shelters, community kitchens and other service programs.

Tech’s track and field team will also help distribute 6,238 pounds of food to feed over 4,000 people in the Atlanta community.
