ATLANTA – Georgia Tech guard Zam Fredrick plans to leave the Yellow Jackets’ basketball program, and he has been given a release to seek a transfer to another school, head coach Paul Hewitt and Fredrick said Thursday.
The 6-0 guard, who has completed two seasons in the Tech program, will remain enrolled at Tech through the end of spring semester, which is May 4. A native of St. Matthews, S.C., Fredrick was the Yellow Jackets’ fourth-leading scorer 2006, averaging 10.6 points a game along with 3.9 assists. He started 18 of Tech’s 28 games.
“Zam has had two good years in our program and made a lot of progress,” said Hewitt. “We wish him all the best as he looks for a place to continue his education and his college basketball career.”
Fredrick, who played in 47 games at Tech, finished his sophomore year strong, reaching double figures in six of his last eight games while averaging 14.4 points and shooting 51 percent from the floor over that stretch.
Fredrick has asked to defer comment on his transfer once he has reached a decision and been accepted at his new school.
