Four Yellow Jackets Named To ACC All-Academic Football Team

Feb. 17, 2011

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four Georgia Tech football student-athletes – senior kicker Scott Blair, junior running back Roddy Jones, junior defensive tackle Logan Walls and freshman guard Will Jackson – were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team for football, league commissioner John Swofford announced Thursday.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. The ACC has selected an All-ACC Academic Football team every year since 1954.

Georgia Tech’s four selections equal the number of Yellow Jackets selected to the team in 2007 and 2008. Two Tech players made the team in 2009.

Blair earned All-ACC Academic honors for the first time. He finished his collegiate playing career in 2010 and will leave the Flats with the highest single-season and career field goal percentages in school history. He ranks fifth in Georgia Tech history with 239 points scored.

Jones made the All-ACC Academic team for the third straight year. Jones has 39 career starts heading into his final season in 2011, and he has rushed for 1,388 career yards.

Walls makes the team for the second straight year. Walls was the starter at nose tackles in the Yellow Jackets’ 3-4 defense and he enters his senior season with 49 career tackles.

Jackson was a starter at guard as a redshirt freshman and helped Georgia Tech lead the nation in rushing offense. He was named first team Freshmen All-American by the Football Writers and Phil Steele Magazine.

Since 1980, Georgia Tech has placed 92 players on the ACC’s All-Academic Football Team.

There were 52 players representing all 12 league schools on the 2010 team.
