ATLANTA – On Saturday, August 13th, Georgia Tech Athletics welcomed 50 “Matches” from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta (BBBSMA) to Bobby Dodd Stadium for an exclusive Ice Cream Social. The 50 Big Brothers and Big Sisters and their Little Brothers and Little Sisters got an inside look at Bobby Dodd Stadium on the campus of Georgia Tech then joined the team, coaches and staff for ice cream donated by Mayfield Dairy.
The exclusive event was devised as a part of a strategic partnership between the Georgia Tech Athletics Association and the mentoring organization, aimed at providing unique collegiate experiences for Bigs and Littles, recruiting more male volunteers, increasing exposure for BBBSMA and allowing Georgia Tech’s athletes the opportunity to reach into the community and touch lives beyond the field of play.
“We are so excited to be partnered with Georgia Tech Athletics,” said BBBSMA President & CEO Janice McKenzie-Crayton. “These young men and women who excel at their sport and excel at such a high academic level are great role models for our kids. We want the children in our program to want to go to college and we know exposing them to a place like Georgia Tech will be an excellent motivator.”
In addition, Georgia Tech Volleyball will welcome 20 Big Sisters and their Little Sisters for a Volleyball Clinic on Saturday, August 20, created specifically for Bigs and Littles. The partnership between the youth-serving organization and GTAA also includes unique marketing opportunities at athletic events, on the school’s official athletic website and in various print publications.
“There is no doubt we will experience tremendous gains from our partnership with the Jackets. So many of our Bigs, board members and supporters are Georgia Tech alumni,” said McKenzie-Crayton. “We think this is a great way to share our message and find new volunteers, all while cheering on the home-town team.”
