David North and Marko Rajevac Fall in Quarterfinals of NCAA Tournament

May 28, 2005

Georgia Tech’s doubles team of David North and Marko Rajevac fell in the NCAA Doubles Championship Quarterfinals Saturday to top-seeded John Isner and Antonio Ruiz of the University of Georgia in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

After initially entering the tournament as alternates, Tech’s team posted wins on Thursday and Friday to reach the quarterfinals, the first time team from Tech had advanced that far in 40 years. North and Rajevac, earning all-American honors for the first time in their career, complete their season with a 17-10 record.

“We knew that our guys were going to be up against a lot today,” said head coach Kenny Thorne. “Georgia’s team is very good and a tough matchup for anybody in this tournament. Still, I’m very proud of David and Marko. This is the first year they’ve played together and both of them gained a lot of experience playing in this tournament and to earn all-American honors just puts a cap on a great season. They did a great job of representing Georgia Tech and should be proud of their performance this week.”
