Coirault, Aguirre Win Flight Titles at Clemson

Georgia Tech juniors Romain Coirault and Sergio Aguirre won the No. 1 and No. 5 singles flights, respectively, with wins on the final day of the 1999 Clemson Fall Classic Sunday in Clemson, S.C.

Coirault wrapped up the No. 1 flight title with a 7-5, 1-6, 6-2, win over Penn’s Eric Sobogka, while Aguirre won at No. 5 by beating Penn’s Brian Boorki in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

Coirault went 4-0 at No. 1 in the flighted round-robin event, while Aguirre was 3-0 at No. 5.

Junior Jason Jeong and freshman Roger Anderson also won for the Jackets on Sunday. Jeong topped Penn’s Rut Merinjess, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4, and Anderson won a 6-2, 6-1 decision against Penn’s Jared Corby in the No. 6 flight.

Tech also swept three doubles matches against Penn on Sunday. Senior Tim Bibby and redshirt freshman David Wright won at No. 1, Aguirre and Anderson won at No. 2, and Coirault and Jeong won at No. 3.

The Jackets are off this week before hosting the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational Oct. 16-18 at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
