Former National Football League offensive lineman Brandon Torrey joined Georgia Tech football’s staff in 2026 as assistant offensive line coach.
Torrey, an all-American at Howard who played professionally for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants and Oakland Raiders, brings 11 years of coaching experience to The Flats, including eight at the NCAA Division I level.
Most recently, Torrey spent a season as the offensive tackles coach and special teams coordinator at Monroe University in New Rochelle, N.Y. (2025).
His recent stint at Monroe followed two seasons as the tackles and tight ends coach at Central Michigan (2023-24). In his second season at CMU, he coached an all-Mid-American Conference performer in tackle Brayden Swartout and in second season.
His coaching resume also includes three total seasons at his alma mater, Howard, where he began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach in 2015 and went on to be the Bison’s offensive line coach in 2016 and 2022, three seasons as offensive line coach at Norfolk State (2019-21) and two seasons as the tight ends coach at Monroe (2017-18).
At Howard, Torrey coached three all-Mid Eastern Athletic Conference offensive linemen and helped lead the Bison to a share of the MEAC championship in 2022, while his offensive line helped pave the way for Howard’s first 1,000-yard rusher in more than a decade in 2016.
At Norfolk State, he coached seven all-MEAC offensive linemen in just two seasons (the 2020 season was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic), as well as 2021 MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Year and second-team all-American Justin Redd. Torrey’s offensive front helped NSU set single-season school records for overall points per game and points per game in conference play in 2021.
In his first stint at Monroe, Torrey produced two junior-college all-Americans in two seasons, while also assisting with a special teams unit that ranked No. 2 nationally in kickoff return yardage in 2018.
As a player, he played a total of seven professional seasons, including five in the NFL with the Steelers (2006-07), Cardinals (2007), Giants (2007-08) and Raiders (2008-09). He was a member of the Giants’ world championship team in 2007, which defeated the previously unbeaten New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. He also played one professional season with the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europe (2006) and Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League (2011).
Torrey was a three-time all-MEAC selection at Howard, where he earned all-America honors and was recognized as one of the nation’s top 10 NCAA Division I-AA guards in 2004. He was also named the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Player of the Year and chosen to participate in the inaugural HBCU All-Star Classic in ’04. Nicknamed “The Franchise,” Torrey set Howard’s school record for consecutive starts.
A Durham, N.C. native, Torrey earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Howard in 2015.
