Braun on Outland Trophy Watch List

Georgia Tech junior offensive guard Parker Braun (Hallsville, Texas/Hallsville) is one of 82 student-athletes on the preseason watch list for the 2018 Outland Trophy, the Football Writers Association of America announced on Tuesday. The Outland Trophy, presented by the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, honors college football’s top interior lineman.

Braun has established himself as one of the nation’s best offensive linemen over the course of his two-year career on The Flats. He has started each of the last 19 games at left guard, including all 11 as a sophomore last season, when he was named first-team all-Atlantic Coast Conference. He was a key cog in an offensive front that helped pave the way for Georgia Tech to lead the ACC and rank fifth nationally in rushing offense (307.4 ypg), set a school record with four 400-yard rushing games and feature two 1,000-yard rushers (QB TaQuon Marshall and BB KirVonte Benson) in 2017. He was named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week for the second time in his young career after he took 22 defenders to the ground (one every 3.4 snaps) and helped the Yellow Jackets rush for 436 yards in a 35-17 win over Pitt on Sept. 23 of last year.

In addition to being a first-team all-ACC selection, Braun is also a two-time academic all-conference honoree.

Semifinalists for the 73rd Outland Trophy will be announced on Nov. 14 and three finalists will be unveiled on Nov. 19. The winner will be announced as part of the 2018 Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 6 and be presented at the Werner Enterprises Outland Trophy Awards Dinner presented by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee on Jan. 9, 2019 in Omaha, Neb.
