Feb. 28, 2007

ORLANDO – Ryan Langerhans homered to lead off the third inning to help the Atlanta Braves to a 5-0 exhibition win over Georgia Tech Wednesday afternoon at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

Box Score

Braves starter Matt Harrison went two innings, giving up a hit to Yellow Jacket right fielder Wally Crancer in the second inning. Crancer stole second base and moved to third on a throwing error, but was stranded there when Harrison retired the next three batters in the order.

Other highlights from the game included a ninth-inning hit by third baseman Brad Feltes, the first game appearance of pitcher John Goodman in 2007, as well as former Yellow Jacket All-American wide receiver Calvin Johnson throwing out the first pitch

Goodman, Georgia Tech’s starter against the Braves, held Atlanta hitless while striking out one and walking one. Tim Ladd, Charlie Blackmon, Will Hirsch and Sean Devine all pitched scoreless innings in relief for the Jackets.

The Atlanta bullpen of Kevin Barry, Jose Ascanio, Jonathan Johnson, Anthony Lerew and Joey Devine helped preserve the shutout for the Braves.

The Yellow Jackets will return to Atlanta to face Rutgers in a three-game series beginning Friday at 4 p.m. The Jackets and Scarlet Knights will continue the series Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 12 noon. (Please note that Sunday’s game time has been moved from previously published schedules to accommodate fans attending the Georgia Tech-Boston College men’s basketball game).
